India is the world's leading consumer of cinnamon and anise products, and is also a major producer of medicinal herbs. Currently, Vietnam dominates the Indian market with more than 80% of cinnamon and anise imports.
Vietnamese cinnamon is popular in India due to its good essential oil content and unique flavor. Besides, the export of this product to India also benefits from preferential tariffs of the ASEAN - India FTA Agreement. Especially, with a large population, India has a very large market demand for cinnamon, anise, and medicinal herbs.
Vietnam and China are the only two countries that can produce star anise in large quantities thanks to favorable conditions. Our country has an anise growing area of about 40.000 hectares, concentrated mainly in Lang Son and Cao Bang with an annual output of more than 16.000 tons.
Vietnam is currently one of the strongest countries in spice export with the world's leading position in pepper production and export, ranking the first role in the world in cinnamon export, and the second in the world in star anise export. Import markets for Vietnamese spices are also increasingly diverse such as the US, EU, China, India and the Middle East.
